How ABE Nursing and Support Services collects, uses and protects your personal information.
ABE Nursing and Support Services (“ABE”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). As a provider of health and disability services, we also handle health information in line with the additional protections that apply to sensitive information.
Depending on your relationship with us, we may collect:
We collect personal information directly from you where practicable — for example, through our enquiry and referral forms, phone calls, emails, and during the delivery of services. With your consent, we may also collect information from support coordinators, healthcare professionals, family members or other third parties involved in your care.
We collect and use your information to assess your needs and eligibility, deliver and coordinate nursing and support services, communicate with you and (where authorised) your family or representatives, meet our obligations to the NDIS and other regulators, manage quality and safety, and respond to your enquiries. We will not use your information for a purpose unrelated to your care without your consent, unless required or authorised by law.
Because health information is “sensitive information” under the Privacy Act, we collect it only with your consent (or where otherwise permitted by law) and use it only for the purposes for which it was provided.
We may disclose your information to our nurses and support staff, other providers involved in your care, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and its partners, and government or regulatory bodies where required by law. We do not sell your personal information. We take reasonable steps not to disclose your information to overseas recipients unless you have consented or it is otherwise permitted under the APPs.
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure, using physical, electronic and administrative safeguards. We retain information only as long as required to deliver services and meet our legal obligations, after which it is securely destroyed or de-identified.
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete, consistent with APP 12 and APP 13. To make a request, contact our Privacy Officer using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
